Frequently asked questions
Whether you're eyeing a genuine vintage original or one of our newly made Retro pieces, here's everything you might be wondering about — straight answers, no fine print.
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH "VINTAGE CONDITION"?
Our vintage pieces aren't fresh off a factory line — they've lived a little, and it shows: a soft scratch here, a touch of patina there. That's not a flaw, that's character, and it's exactly what makes vintage vintage. Every vintage product listing gives you an honest description plus real photos of the actual piece you'd be buying — never a stock photo, never a stand-in. Curious about something before you commit? Just message us — we're happy to send extra photos or answer whatever's on your mind.
ARE VINTAGE PIECES REFURBISHED, AND COULD PARTS BE MIXED FROM DIFFERENT ITEMS?
Before any vintage piece reaches you, Dirk personally gets his hands on it — cleaning, repairing, and bringing it back to a very good to near-perfect condition, built to keep shining in your home for another 50 years, not just the next five. And no, we don't build "marriage pieces" — parts from different originals stitched together to fake a complete item. What you see in the listing is what actually belongs together; on the rare occasion an exception exists, we'll say so clearly, not bury it in fine print.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN VINTAGE AND RETRO ITEMS?
Vintage means the real deal: genuine original pieces from Europe, most commonly former West or East Germany, often decades old and never mass-produced today — once a vintage piece sells, it's gone for good. Retro means newly made, right now, in those same classic shapes, colors, and patterns, so you can always get more. Old souls and new designs, living side by side — both clearly labeled as Vintage or Retro in the collection and title, so you always know exactly what's landing on your doorstep.
TREAT YOURSELF TO A DISCOUNT?
Join the newsletter and get 5% off — you'll need to confirm that subscription by email first, which is a legal requirement, not us being extra. Order 2 or more items and 10% off happens automatically at checkout; grab 4 or more and that jumps to 20%, no code needed either way.
SHIPPING / UNCLAIMED PACKAGE
Double-check your shipping address before you hit order — getting it right is on you, not us. For vintage items, once your payment clears, we pack everything carefully by hand and get it out the door within 2-4 business days, with tracking sent straight to your inbox. Retro items are made and shipped directly by our production partners around the world (US, Canada, China, Latvia) — each has its own processing time, listed right on the product page. If a package comes back unclaimed or undeliverable because of a wrong address, we'll refund you minus all shipping costs we've actually incurred.
SHIPPING: RETRO ITEMS
Retro pieces are made to order, not pulled off a shelf — processing time varies by product and is listed right on the product page. Once your order ships, standard delivery takes 10-15 business days, economy 15-25 (USA only), or express 4-7 days on most products — just check at checkout.
SHIPPING TIMES / ESTIMATED DELIVERY
About 95% of orders show up right on time — sometimes even early. The other 5%? That's usually customs, weather, or a strike doing its thing somewhere along the way, and honestly, that's out of our hands — we can pack it perfectly and ship it fast, but we can't control a snowstorm or a customs backlog.
CUSTOMS AND IMPORT TAXES
No surprises here: Retro items come with customs and import duties already covered, so nothing extra lands on your doorstep. Vintage originals are a different story, since they ship as themselves straight from Germany — local import taxes or customs duties may apply depending on where you live, and that part's on the buyer.
RETURNS WITHIN THE EU
If you're in the EU, you've got the legal right to send things back within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. Return shipping is on you, though — we just ask that you package it as carefully as we did.
RETURNS FROM NON-EU COUNTRIES
Outside the EU, you've got 21 days after delivery to send something back at your own expense — just message us first so we know it's coming and can sort out the details together. Return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility here too.
