VINTAGE KITCHEN

Our Vintage Kitchen collection brings together original wooden wall cabinets, storage shelving, and kitchen furniture from former West and East Germany, each one a genuine vintage piece, hand-refurbished and ready for daily use. Look for sliding-door cabinets with real glass panels in pastel red, baby-blue, mint-green, and vanilla yellow, plus curtain rails and towel hooks. Because our vintage finds span several decades, each piece's exact age is noted in its own listing rather than claimed for the whole collection. The collection also includes newly made retro items, such as self-adhesive wall panel kits or table linen, always clearly marked as such. Questions about a specific piece or how to hang it? Just message us.

Questions about our vintage kitchen pieces

Are these kitchen wall cabinets original vintage pieces, or reproductions?

Every wall cabinet in this collection is an original vintage piece — not a reproduction — sourced from former East and West Germany. Each piece's exact age is noted in its own listing, since our vintage finds span several decades rather than one fixed era. Every one is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, so once it sells, it won't be restocked. The only exception are the self-adhesive wall panel kits, which are newly manufactured in a retro style and can be reordered.

What condition can I expect – will there be wear, scratches, or damage?

Every piece we sell has been refurbished by hand in our workshop before it's listed — that's simply how we work, because we hold ourselves and our pieces to a high standard. Dirk reworks each cabinet individually; how much that takes varies, from light touch-ups to a more thorough overhaul, but the result doesn't: every cabinet leaves us structurally sound and ready to shine in your kitchen for another 50 years. A little vintage character — a soft mark, a touch of patina — may remain, and that's part of the charm, not a flaw.

How do I hang the wall cabinet, and is mounting hardware included?

That depends on your wall type — and once you factor in what you'll store inside (plates, cups, anything with real weight), there's no one-size-fits-all answer we can give here. Dirk is happy to help: just message us with your wall type and what you plan to store, and he'll give you concrete advice on the best way to mount it for your situation.

Will a vintage cabinet smell musty or like old wood?

No — our vintage cabinets don't smell musty, moldy, or unpleasant in any way, so you don't need to worry about that. Since we refurbish each piece, you may notice a light, pleasant smell from the finish we used — shellac, oil, a wood glaze, or, on colored cabinets, fresh paint — since the original finish is sometimes reapplied or renewed as part of the refurbishment. This can also slightly affect the color or tone. Both the smell and any color change settle quickly and are simply part of how a freshly refurbished vintage piece looks and smells. We only sell pieces we'd happily hang or use ourselves, exactly as they are, so anything unpleasant simply wouldn't make it into the shop.

Can I order matching cabinets or sets for a coordinated kitchen look?

Because every cabinet is an original one-of-a-kind vintage find, exact matching sets are rare — colors and door styles vary piece to piece. That said, many customers successfully mix complementary colors (e.g. pastel tones from the same era) rather than identical pairs, which suits the eclectic midcentury look. Our Retro collection is also worth a look — it lets you pair original vintage pieces with newly made retro items in matching patterns and colors, like curtains, rugs, or cushions, to round out the look exactly how you want.

How are items packed, and what about shipping for multiple pieces?

Every fragile item — glass sliding doors, ceramic wall clocks, ceramic reliefs — is individually wrapped and cushioned before boxing, with extra padding around corners and glass panels specifically. All shipments include insurance and full tracking. Shipping cost is calculated automatically at checkout based on total weight — no need to ask us first. If you order multiple items, they may ship as separate packages rather than combined into one box, simply to make sure each piece arrives safely.

Do the colors in the photos match the actual item exactly?

Every piece is photographed in our studio, but we can't guarantee the color reproduction is 100% exact — it also depends on the screen or device you're viewing it on, so slight color deviations are possible. If you have any questions about a specific color before ordering, just message us.

Is this a mix of parts, or all original to the piece?

Everything is exactly as described in the listing — all original parts, nothing pieced together from different items. If something on a vintage piece ever needs replacing because it's broken, we only use original-style replacement parts, never new or mismatched materials. So what you see described is exactly what you get: no "marriage" pieces combining parts from different cabinets to fake a complete set.

How heavy is it, and will it hold up over time?

Exact weight and dimensions are always listed in the product details. Beyond the numbers, every piece goes through Dirk's professional refurbishment before it's listed — he holds every piece that passes through our hands to a high quality standard, so it's structurally sound, not just cosmetically nice. That's the whole point of refurbishing rather than simply reselling as-is: a cabinet that leaves us is built to be used and hung for decades, not just displayed.
