VINTARAMA – ORIGINAL MID-CENTURY VINTAGE & NEW RETRO DESIGNS
VINTARAMA is a German family-run online store for genuine Mid-Century vintage furniture and home décor from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, alongside newly made RETRO home products featuring our own Mid-Century-inspired designs. Our VINTAGE collection consists of hand-picked original European pieces that we source, restore and ship from Germany, while our RETRO collection includes newly manufactured home furnishings and accessories such as lamps, rugs, curtains and kitchen textiles. Together, both collections make it possible to create a complete Mid-Century-inspired home – from an original 1950s kitchen cabinet to Mid-Century-inspired curtains in vibrant colors, geometric 60s-style rugs, or 70s statement tripod lamps that complete the room.
IT ALL STARTED WITH VINTAGE...
As a passionate archaeologist, Dirk brought his love of searching for – and finding – hidden treasures into our relationship. It didn’t take long before Katja caught the bug too.
For many years, we’ve been roaming flea markets, vintage markets and hidden corners across Europe as enthusiastic “hunters and gatherers”, always on the lookout for those special pieces that deserve to be discovered.
Eventually, keeping all those treasures to ourselves seemed rather selfish.
So, in 2018, VINTARAMA was born.
THE REAL DEAL: OUR VINTAGE COLLECTION
Our VINTAGE collection remains at the heart of Vintarama: genuine, hand-picked original pieces from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
From cabinets, clocks and sewing boxes to bar carts and other pieces of European Mid-Century design, every vintage item is personally sourced and selected by us.
Before appearing in our shop, our vintage finds receive plenty of care and attention. Where necessary, they are professionally restored and refurbished here in Germany before being carefully packed and sent on their way to a new home somewhere in the world.
Every piece is unique. It already has a history, a character, and a few stories to tell – and we rather like the idea of adding a few more decades to them.
For us, this is what true sustainability means: preserving well-made furniture and home décor instead of replacing it simply because it is old. Great design shouldn’t end up in a rubbish compactor. It deserves a second life.
AND THEN CAME RETRO...
At some point, we asked ourselves a simple question:
Why should the Vintarama look stop with the vintage furniture?
After all, a home is made up of much more than furniture.
That’s how our RETRO collection came to life: newly made products featuring our own designs, inspired by the colors, shapes, and patterns of the Mid-Century era we love so much.
For these products, we work with specialized production partners in different countries. Depending on the product, it is manufactured and shipped directly from the respective production location.
This allows us to bring the Vintarama look into many more corners of your home – with lamps, rugs, curtains, kitchen textiles, and other home accessories designed to mix and match beautifully with genuine vintage pieces.
FROM THE KITCHEN APRON TO THE KITCHEN CABINET
And that pretty much sums up what we want Vintarama to be.
A place where you might find an original 1950s kitchen cabinet – and the kitchen apron to go with it.
Where a genuine 1960s bar cart can live alongside a newly made rug, curtain, or lamp inspired by the very same era.
Where you don’t have to choose between old and new.
Because we believe the most interesting homes aren’t created by buying everything from the same furniture catalog. They grow from mixing originals and new designs, old favorites and new discoveries, colors, patterns, and pieces with personality.
Maybe it starts with a little vintage cabinet.
Maybe with a rather fabulous pair of curtains.
Either way, the goal is the same: to make your home look a little less like everyone else’s – and a lot more like yours.
